"It was great to be able to provide this experience to the young ladies," said Pete Walsh, head golf professional at MGA Links. "Each year it seems that we see a growing number of girls taking part, not only in our programs, but in golf in general across the state."
Following the on-course instruction, the attendees enjoyed complimenary lunch provided by the WGAM, which provides instruction and competition for female golfers of all ages. The attendees then returned to the course to compete in a 9-hole scramble where a representative from the WGAM joined each foursome of girls to partake in the fun.
"We've had this idea for a long time, and it turned out to be a great success," said Terry Wappel, President and Junior Chairperson for the WGAM. "MGA Links is a great venue, and we're hopeful that we can make this event grow in the future."
MGA Links continues to open its door to various groups throughout the course of the year in its quest to grow the game.
"It's great to be able to provide our facility for events like this," said Joe McCabe, Executive Director of The First Tee of Massachusetts. "To be able to partner with the WGAM for a unique event like this is a lot of fun. In 2011, we're going to be host to one of their season-opening events, so certainly our golf course and clubhouse are allowing us to make a further impact on junior golf."
